Process chemistry industrial placement-Asymchem
Asymchem is looking for a highly motivated student with a passion for Chemistry (especially organic) to help design and develop new routes to starting materials, intermediates and APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) through considered, data-driven experimental execution in the laboratory.
Qualification Requirements
You must be studying for a degree in chemistry with a very good knowledge of organic chemistry.
Please note this position is for students seeking a placement to form part of their undergraduate degree. If you will have graduated in 2026 we are unable to consider you.
Salary - £24,000 per annum

Job Description
Working within our state-of-the-art laboratories at Sandwich, your role will be to design and develop new routes to starting materials, intermediates and APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) through considered, data-driven experimental execution in the laboratory. Within a collaborative team environment, you will create safe, robust, scalable and efficient chemical processes to manufacture pharmaceutical API’s. You may have the opportunity to transfer these chemical processes to scale up facilities and ultimately manufacturing.
Job Responsibilities
Asymchem will invest in your development so that you can:
• Design and demonstrate new synthetic routes to small molecule API candidates.
• Employ a range of laboratory equipment from mg to multigram scale, in conjunction with a suite of analytical tools, to maximise the generation of knowledge from each experiment.
• Learn to convert experimental data into knowledge, in order to map out next steps and the research strategy.
• Document and present you research clearly and effectively either through written reports or presentations.
• Collaborate with scientists within and outside functional area to achieve team goals.
• Perform laboratory operations with a critical focus on safety ensuring process safety guidelines are followed when conducting scale-up experiments.
• Utilise the experience of the group to support continued professional development in a range of technical areas to develop a high level of expertise supplemented with transferrable soft skills.
