Cogent Skills is working with DePuy Synthes to recruit an Apprentice Mechatronics Technician (Mechanical / Electrical) to work at its manufacturing plant in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a global medical device manufacturing company with great development opportunities.
Qualification Requirements
You will need both of the following: GCSE English language C or 4 or above GCSE Maths C or 4 or above
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
Please note, it you already hold a level 3 qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering you are over qualified and cannot be considered.
Salary - Minimum Apprenticeship Wage
Salaries are reviewed annually and adjusted in accordance with the national minimum wage.

Job Description
Cogent Skills is currently recruiting for an Apprentice Mechatronics Technician (Mechanical / Electrical) to join DePuy’s growing team. The Mechatronics Technician will undertake installation, testing, servicing, removal, replacement, maintenance and repair of a range of electrical plant and equipment as part of planned preventative and reactive maintenance programmes.
At the end of their training, the Technician will apply their knowledge of plant and systems to safely perform maintenance and operational activities with minimum supervision. This will require them to:
Comply with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulations
Locate and rectify faults on plant and equipment
Read, understand and interpret information and work in compliance with technical specifications and supporting documentation
Inspect and maintain appropriate plant and equipment to meet operational requirements
Assess and test the performance and condition of plant and equipment
Communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification
Position, assemble, install and dismantle electrical plant and equipment, which will include motors, switchgear, cables & conductors, to agreed specifications
Carry out planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on electrical plant and equipment.
Replace, repair and/or remove components in electrical plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition.
Diagnose and determine the cause of faults in electrical plant and equipment
The apprentice will follow the employer-led Mechatronics Technician Apprenticeship Standard, which combines practical, technical and behavioural training with theoretical knowledge of relevant science and technology.
The apprenticeship offered by DePuy Synthes blends both theoretical learning and hands-on experience. During the first six months of the programme, apprentices will focus on building their theoretical knowledge, before progressing into practical, on-the-job experience, alongside day release at college for continued learning.

Apprentices will need to be able to travel to the training centre each day during this period.
Following the foundation stage of the programme, from month 7 onwards the apprentices will be based on site at DePuy in Leeds. During this time, they will be required to attend the AMRC Training Centre one day per week.
Programme structure:
• Year 1 – 30-week practical block training at the AMRC Training Centre, alongside the first year of Development Knowledge (day release).
• Year 2 – Completion of the second year of Development Knowledge.
• Year 3 – In-company training and development.
Future Prospects
If you demonstrate a pro-active practical aptitude with problem solving skills and are willing to accept responsibility, there will be great opportunities for progression within the company potentially to gain an engineering degree qualification.
Things To Be Considered
Apprentices must be able to attend the AMRC Training Centre in Rotherham for the first 6 months, then be based at DePuy Leeds, with one day per week at AMRC.
Working within a heavily regulated environment requires strict adherence to in-house protocol and HSE legislation with a high degree of integrity and attention to details in all aspects of work.
This is a 4 -year Apprenticeship with training up to Level 3 and on successful completion you will be able to perform at a high level of accomplishment
